Talk@Playground Interview w/ Pharrell Williams & KAWS

Bios are on the inside........So go in

Pharrell Williams|

Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter/producer Pharrell Williams has made history as one of the most successful and prolific entertainers to emerge during the last decade.
Spanning genres, as part of the beat-making duo The Neptunes and the alternative rock trio N.E.R.D, Pharrell has helped A-List pop stars (Britney Spears, Mariah Carey, *NSYNC, Busta Rhymes) sell millions of albums and even earn Grammy Awards for the likes of Justin Timberlake, Nelly, and Usher.
You’d think being one of today’s top music producers would keep him busy but Pharrell has diversified into the design and business worlds too having designed a series of upscale sunglasses and jewelry for Louis Vuitton.  He’s also launched the Billionaire Boys Club clothing line, Ice Cream shoe collection and collaborated with skateboard icon Tony Hawk.
Pharrell’s newest ventures include partnering with a company called Bionic Yarn, a 2 year old textile firm based in New York dedicated to developing environmentally sustainable fabrics using recycled plastic bottles. - T@P

KAWS|

KAWS started out as a grafitti artist. After moving to New York in the 90’s, he made his mark (literally) by subverting imagery on billboards, bus shelters and phone booths.  As KAWS’ popularity skyrocketed, his altered ads became wanted items.
Like all inspired artists of this genre, KAWS went global and created work on the streets of London, Paris, Berlin and Tokyo.
Since those days, he’s moved onto something a little less controversial – but definitely just as fun. His line of limited edition vinyl toys were “an instant hit with the global art toy-collecting community,” and he’s since collaborated with the likes of Original Fake, Nike, Vans and Comme des Garcons.
Through all of his projects, KAWS has successfully blurred the line between fine art and mass-produced merchandise. He uses his products to allow his imagery to infiltrate a larger audience than that of the fine art world. The artist is currently an active member in both the commercial and fine art communities. - T@P
